We believe no one women or child should lose their dignity to losing a husband or breadwinner. To effectively provide support for our community in the long run we have created tripartite Managed Trust funds which are:
- Widows Enterprise Trust fund
- Orphans Educational & Apprenticeship Trust Fund

Placida is a youth focused peacebuilding program designed to pacify socially excluded war orphans in Nigeria.Placida which could mean tranquil, calm, serene, or peaceful in different languages around the world is a subsect of Soulace Africa war orphans and Widow’s development program. Otherwise called war orphans advocacy programme.
Handling loss of parent or parents creates a bunch of emmotional and economic hiccups for young people. In our society, less attention is given to bereaved youth. This neglect further create bubbles of anger, confusion, depression and uncertainty which could translate into violent conflict if not addressed. Subsequent to the loss of their breadwinners, youth are being saddled with the responsibility of an adult. We refer to this as malady of change. Often times orphans become responsible for the support and up keep of their siblings and families at their own expense when they themselves are supposed bto be cared for. As a result of this, Many of the orphans unavoidably drop out of school to take menial jobs.
In Nigeria 98% of first child in their teenage years in war torn families dropped out of school as a result of livelihood difficulties to support their families. Thereby finding solace in social vices such as alcoholism, drug abuse, violent conflict etc. Placida program is designed to help affected youth overcome their loss while providing them opportunity for transformation such as;
- Apprenticeship and entrepreneurship opportunity.
- Educational scholarship and supports.
- Mentoring and leadership training.
- Placidium – Youth arm of Soulace Survivor Network.
We offer 3-months intensive training project that aim at equipping participants with vocational and entrepreneurship skill in African fabric art (Tye and Dye) and sustainable agricultural. We also facilitate apprenticeship with credible trainners in other technical areas of endeavour.
Albeit, we embrace youth who cannot continue their education and ensure they are back to school through scholarship opportunity and other educational support. Veterans orphans are also encouraged to acquire a skill while pursuing career in educational institutions. This is in a bid to make them productive after their course of study and to avert unemployment.
Placida boot camp also provide opportunity for networking, mentoring, innate peace-building, transformative storytelling. We expose our participant into meditation, nonviolence and other conflict transformation techniques that will help them live a violent free live in their communities.
Placida aims and objectives are;
- To empower war orphans with vocational skill in African fabric design and Sustainable agriculture.
- To foster the use of acquired skill for the purpose of gainful self employment and decent income generation.
- To help checkmate the spiral of conflict that could be initiated as a result of government neglect, irresponsibility and exclusion of the left behind in Nigeria through innate peacebuilding.

- To positively influence the perception of war orphans and to reposition them as peace advocate using their victimhood positively, thereby building a resilient and responsible people in the society.
The target beneficiaries are vulnerable veterans’ orphans between the age of 10 – 30. They are often charactrised with living in abysmal poverty without either skill or sustainable means of income generation. These individuals are excluded from government welfare benefits and palliatives and are prone to anger and bitterness as a result of the neglect
- To train about 50 young veterans’ orphans in vocational and entrepreneurship skill acquisition.
- To foster the use of the newly acquired skill on small scale enterprise for the purpose of income generation and decent employment.
- To establish and link up orphans to the self-help group and cooperative called Soulace Survivor Network.
- Ensure that poverty is alleviated across beneficiaries’ families within 2 to 5 years.

Soulace Africa ‘Develop’ is community based skill building program designed to empower Veterans’ Widows in Nigeria. United Nations statistics shows that 80% of violent conflict around the world affect women and children. Women being more at the receiving end should be supported to take care of their children. Develop is a wake up call to veterans widows to step up from wallowing in abysmal poverty to a self sustained life.
War widows are plunged into uncertainty by the death of their husbands. Many of which are traumatized and lack the wherewithal to take up the responsibility of their dependents. It’s sad that Nigeria society as well as the government does excluded widows and thus further pushed them toward the margin of the Nigeria society. Veterans widows are not immune from the social neglect, deprivation and abject poverty in anyway. Most often widows resort to some sort of servitude and beggary for survival with children out of school.
Our intervention develop span from the Soulace Africa war orphans and widows development scheme. It focus on providing critical empowerment opportunities for the vulnerable war widows in Nigeria.
Develop offers vocational and entrepreneurship skill acquisition that will help widows transform from being unemployed and wretched to becoming gainfully employed while earning decent income.
This project is designed to empower war widows with innate peace-building, ease from the debilitating experience and trauma that accompany the loss of their husbands. This will take place during the monthly family meetings, inculcated into various training sessions or at specialized boot camps.
Sustainable Income Generation:
Develop is also designed to facilitate the use of skill acquired for income generation that is tailored towards decent earning. We offer short intensive training that could immediately generate income for the widows. Agriculture and African fabric art and design and other form of income generating trade are used as tool for empowerment.

If the community has rejected widows, widows through Soulace survivor Network could connect and embrace one another.
